Lovely! Very close to what I imagined, probably better than I imagined. And the instrument is perfect.

Oooooooooh I definitely like the black background better! It makes you want to look at the character even more, especially when they are framed by the black in some places and melting into it in others. It's a good figure-ground relationship :D
