Richard Gansey and the Pig

Since reading the books, I’ve been haunting Tumbler and reading what people say about the characters. I am somewhat surprised at those who hate Gansey. He’s is such a good character. I mean, he literately, intentionally wants to be kind and loving to others. And it’s interesting how he accepts others as they are, but is always getting criticized for being what he is. He has a bigger and stranger vocab, he has traveled. Travel changes the way the mind works. It just does. Stretches you out, you’re not the same person after. So aside from being born into a rich family, Gansey has been changed by the experiences in his life. And yet, Adam and Blue find this…offensive? And are jealous, of course. And they take it out on him. Which is silly, because if they ask, he would gladly fly them out to anywhere they wanted. Because he is kind and unselfish with his friends. I get how he wants them to be happy and wants to help cause that happiness but also wants them around forever. I think to him, the stuff of everyday life are minor details when compared to true friends, to belonging. I also feel these things are worth more and I’m not even rich. I’m between Adam and Blue, in terms of wealth. I think Gansey is an example of how you can have everything, but if you feel lonely, or not part of something bigger, its not enough. Intellectually, you know you are lucky and blessed but the hole in your heart does not go away. I can’t criticize him for that. 

Also, I did not give him a crown. He is called king quite often in the third book, but just in case that is a red haring, I’m quite prepared for it not actually being him. Ronan, is after all, the most raven of the boys.
